GRANT CRAVEN

 

Grant Craven developed a liking for horses and horse racing as a youngster growing up in Geelong. He attended St Joseph's college and in 1998 when most of the class went to University or pursued lucrative sporting careers Grant decided that a career in racing was what awaited him and he was given an opportunity to work for leading local trainer John Blakey, which was where Grant  came across a horse called Go Flash Go and a passion was born. 

Before too long Grant was well and truly bitten by the thouroughbred industry bug and had taken the first small steps towards fulfilling his ambition of one day becoming a racehorse trainer. Grant also worked for Michael Hibbs and Mark Young while in Geelong before making the move to Melbourne to take up a Foreman's position at Hobson's Lodge with Matthew Ellerton where he spent nearly 3 years being responsible for the care of group horses such as- Black Bean, Desert Eagle, Desert Sky, River Dove, Cross Current, Coupe and Casual Pass

Grant returned to John Blakey as his Foreman in 2003 after gaining great experience and knowledge during his time in the big smoke but when Blakey took up an offer to train overseas Grant was on the lookout for a suitable position, this was Grant's first association with Riverend Park as he took up a Foreman's position with Bradley Marzato who had just begun training at Riverend Park.

Grant worked as a Stable Foreman at Riverend park under Bradley Marzato between 2004 and 2006, and after a stint with David Brideoake at Mornington, Grant returned to Riverend park as Assistant Trainer to Russell Cameron in early 2008 and continued on in the same role with Barry Barnes at the helm in 2009 and the pair enjoyed great success winning three races with Northern Light, a further three with progressive sprinter Akihito and winning in the city with the promising 3 year old filly Starry Eyed. before Grant officially took the reins himself in February 2010.
